Introduction
A creative space for literary work with a vision of future center of Asian literature
Established by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on 5th November, 2009 on the former site of the Seoul Historical Compilation Committee, Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture (SFAC)’s Seoul Art Space Yeonhui is the first creative space for literary practices in Seoul. It provides writers with an ideal environment for creativity, and expands opportunities for the general public to engage with literature.
Main Programs
Residency Program
- Disciplines: Literature (fiction, novels, poetry, playwriting, literary translation, literary criticism, essay)
- Period: 1 month to 6 months
- Benefits: one independent writing room, access to shared spaces
- Application: Invitation notices are posted at the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture (SFAC) website each year in November.
Literary Webzine View
Our monthly literature webzine <View> was launched in December 2017, based on the concept of a literary magazine ‘in my hand,’ making it possible for our readers to enjoy literature via mobile and web technology, anytime, anywhere. The webzine is composed of the three sections ‘Do,’ ‘Write,’ and ‘Ask.’ Each issue is published on the last Tuesday of each month, with a view to providing a new perspective and method for understanding literature. Some of the items are produced as we build a network with our readers in order to expand its functions as an alternative platform for the literary community.
Cultural Campaign
It is a ‘literature read-out campaign’ using the broadcast media, which delivers a message of hope through the words of authors while contributing to the proliferation of the values of literature and the opportunities to enjoy literature.
Facilities
The four buildings of the Seoul Art Space Yeonhui, named Kkeullim (attracted), Hollim (charmed), Ullim (resonating), and Deullim (heard), contain 19 writing studios in addition to such community spaces as an outdoor stage and a literature media lab.
The Literature Media Lab is a cultural space open to all (Mon-Fri 10:00~17:00). Visitors are warmly invited to browse through the coll-ection of books and enjoy a cup of coffee.
