⟨Study of Rumors⟩
14 June 2026 (Sun), 4 PM
Seoul Dance Creation Center
"Korean dance must be danced with gongnyeok — accumulated inner force." No one knows who first said it. Over years of studying and practicing Korean dance, various sayings gradually accumulated and came to shape her attitude toward life. Korean dance is passed down by word of mouth; Korean dance deepens the more it is repeated — these sayings had, somewhere along the way, settled into her body as if they were true, though whether they were true or not remained unclear.
In ⟨Study of Rumors⟩, bodies and words that may be rumor or may be fact are thrown out and drift about. The stories are read, are heard, and touch the body. And in the meantime we find ourselves standing not within Korean dance but within the phenomenon of rumor. Perhaps, in the midst of rumor, we may come face-to-face with where Korean dance came from — or where I came from.
Today is an occasion to draw out the words that have clung to the body for so long, to read them again, to blow on them once, to send them flying. What was thought to be fact seems like rumor; what was thought to be rumor seems like fact. Documentary or fantasy — the boundary will waver in the end. ⟨Study of Rumors⟩ is a work that delights in that wavering.

Yoon Hye-jin
Yoon Hye-jin attends to what could be "this way, or that way." She has often felt the world to be intricately entangled, and she believes it is precisely that entanglement that lies closest to truth. Her work captures the many-layered stories hidden within things that appear clear-cut, and the body emerges at their center, holding a doubleness. For her, the body is a device that — being this and that at once — reveals the world, however hazily.
This attitude carries into the form of the present work as well. She holds that the things whose status as fact or rumor is unclear, the "they-say" murmurings, can be truer than any theoretical proposition. And so she inclines her ear toward small, private episodes rather than grand discourse. The concrete experiences inscribed in each body, the stories drawn up from the texture of daily life, become the material of her work. Since 2025 she has led the creative collective 'The Second House', pursuing work that brings about modest, private encounters with audiences.
