“Madi“ is a word of many meanings: a unit that divides time, a unit that builds music — a measure — and the point in the body where movement arises, a joint. Park begins from this ambiguity to explore the gap between time and the body. How does the body perceive and feel time? And within that sensation, what movement comes into being?
Time is given equally to everyone, yet the way the body senses it differs entirely. To some bodies time is something that chases endlessly; to others it is something that echoes and fades. ⟨Madi⟩ is a work in which these divergent sensations coexist within a single space.
The performance unfolds in two parts. In the first, three performers share the same space but do not turn toward one another. Each remains solely within their own time, moving by their own madi. The audience moves freely, looking in on these bodies from whatever distance they choose. In the second part, once the audience takes their seats, the individual bodies they had watched up close unfold again within a single space. With distance come things that only now become visible. The time that seemed to have passed unnoticed had not disappeared; it remained, accumulating outside the body as another sensation, another trace.

Park So-hyun
Park So-hyun is a dancer and choreographer. Her practice is shaped by a dual vantage point: the gaze of one who performs through her own body, and the gaze of one who designs the stage. Continuing a body of work that renders her interest in society and the human condition into perceptible movement, in 2025 she founded MOVEHAUS, an interdisciplinary arts company grounded in contemporary dance, where she serves as head and artistic director.
Park seeks to move beyond the familiar frame through which dance is watched, forging a new relationship between audience and movement. Dismantling the one-directional structure between stage and seating, and treating new platforms or non-stage spaces as the site of performance, belong to this same impulse. Through the convergence of other genres, she aims to preserve the artistic density of dance while widening the paths by which more people can enter the work.
With ⟨OUTLIER⟩, she was selected for a 2025 program jointly presented by ARKO and Daehakro Arts Theater, and her honors include the Best Choreography Award at the 23rd Daejeon New Dance Festival (2024) and an Outstanding Work at the Seoul Dance Lab of the 44th Seoul Dance Festival (2023).
